Alan Surgal was a writer and producer best known for penning Mickey One, a 1965 surrealist drama starring Warren Beatty. The film followed the story of a comedian who flees Detroit after incurring the wrath of the mob.
Surgal also penned the scripts for two episodes of Robert Montgomery Presents — adaptations of Arrowsmith and The Canterville Ghost — and he served as an executive producer on the television movies Secrets of Three Hungry Wives, The Great Cash Giveaway Getaway and The Two Lives of Carol Letner.
He got his start writing for radio programs, then later writing material for Danny Thomas, Bob Hope, Victor Borge and Red Skelton.
Surgal died January 3, 2017, in Beverly Hills, California. He was 100.
