Bruce Brown was an American documentary film director, known as an early pioneer of the surf film.
Brown's best known film, The Endless Summer, received a nationwide theatrical release in 1966. Considered among the most influential in the genre, The Endless Summer follows surfers Mike Hynson and Robert August around the world. Thirty years later, Brown filmed The Endless Summer II with his son in 1994.

Brown went beyond the surf film genre a few times, releasing one of the earliest skateboarding films, America's Newest Sport, presenting the Hobie Super Surfer Skateboard Team. Brown received an Oscar nomination for his 1971 motorcycle racing film, On Any Sunday, on which Steve McQueen was a producer.
In 1999, Brown narrated a beach-themed episode of SpongeBob SquarePants entitled "SpongeBob vs. The Big One".
Brown died Sunday, December 10, 2017, in Santa Barbara, CA. He was 80.
