Leonard Cohen was a singer and songwriter whose work spanned nearly 50 years. Cohen was enormously influential and was perceived as a poet as much as a songwriter.

He is best known for songs that became hits for other artists, including "Suzanne" and "Bird on a Wire" for Judy Collins and "Hallelujah" for the late Jeff Buckley.

Cohen’s music was also used widely in both film and television, including the series Scrubs, The West Wing, Without a Trace, The L Word, The O.C., Crossing Jordan, Cold Case, Numb3rs, Veronica Mars, CSI: NY, ER, Ugly Betty, One Tree Hill, Parenthood, Criminal Minds, Blue Bloods, Homeland, Revenge, Sons of Anarchy, Transparent and True Detective.

Cohen was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2008. He won the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010.

He died November 10, 2016, in Los Angeles. He was 82.
