Stanley Mann was a Canadian-born writer best known for his Oscar-nominated work on The Collector, directed by William Wyler and starring Terence Stamp and Samantha Eggar. The drama told the story of a man who kidnaps a woman and holds her hostage, just for the thrill of it. The film received two additional Oscar nominations, for best director and best actress in a leading role.
Mann also penned 1984’s Conan the Destroyer, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger; Eye of the Needle, with Donald Sutherland; and The Mouse That Roared, starring Peter Sellers. The latter was co-written with Roger MacDougall, who had also collaborated with Mann on the 1957 Broadway play Hide and Seek.
Additionally, Mann wrote three films that starred Sean Connery: Woman of Straw, Meteor and Another Time, Another Place. He also adapted Stephen King’s Firestarter, starring Drew Barrymore; and wrote the scripts for A High Wind in Jamaica, starring Anthony Quinn; The Naked Runner, starring Frank Sinatra; Damien: Omen II, with William Holden and Lee Grant; and Hanna’s War, with Ellen Burstyn.

For television, Mann wrote episodes of Rheingold Theatre, H.G.Wells' Invisible Man, Rendezvous, and ABC Stage 67, as well as the television movie Mad Bull and a 1984 Western for HBO, Draw!, starring Kirk Douglas and James Coburn.
He began his career in his late teens, as a writer and actor for CBC Radio. In 1978, he published a novel, Third Time Lucky.
Mann died January 11, 2016, in Los Angeles. He was 87.
