William M. Hoffman was a writer best known for As Is, a pioneering play about AIDS. Hoffman also wrote the libretto for John Corgliano’s opera The Ghosts of Versailles.
Both projects were turned into television movies, with As Is premiering in 1986, and starring Robert Carradine, and The Ghost of Versailles premiering in 1992, and earning an Emmy nomination in the category of Outstanding Individual Achievement — Classical Music/Dance Programming.
Additionally, Hoffman penned three episodes of the long-running daytime drama One Life to Live, earning a Daytime Emmy nomination in 1992 for his efforts.
Hoffman also appeared on a 2007 episode of In the Life, an LGBT television newsmagazine which was broadcast on PBS.
Hoffman died April 29, 2017, in the Bronx. He was 78.
