Journeys Below the Line: LOST, The Cinematography Team

LOST: - The Cinematography Team” is the third installment of Journeys Below The Line and takes you behind the scenes with Michael Bonvillian and John Bartley the Cinematographers responsible for the incredible visual look and feel of the Primetime Emmy® Award Winning ABC hit show “LOST”.

Introduced by Jorge Garcia (Hurley), Michael Bonvillian and John Bartley explain the advantages of shooting alternate episodes which affords each of them prep time with the director and input on location choices and scheduling. Go along on a location Tech Scout and sit in on the Production meeting, then see the scenes being shot. “LOST” shoots with two cameras and there are interviews with the Camera Operators, the First Assistants (focus pullers) and the Second Assistants (clappers) explaining the responsibilities of their jobs and how they fulfill them.

Take a tour of the special vehicles and equipment that have been developed to make shooting on a sandy beach or in a jungle doable. Cast members Evangeline Lilly, Josh Holloway, Terry O'Quinn, Jorge Garcia and Adewale Akinnouye-Agabaje express their admiration and respect for the work done by The Cinematography Team.

The Television Academy Foundation is proud to announce the release of the second installment of the Journeys Below the Line DVD series, ER: The PropMasters.

This installment features the highly skilled Property Masters team of Rick Kerns and Rick Ladomade. Along with their outstanding crew, this team is responsible for the exceptionally realistic feel of the ER set.

From name badges and stethoscopes to prosthetics and animatronics babies, they pull together all the props required to create ER's couldn't-be-more-authentic world.

Journeys Below the Line: 24, The Editing Process

Journeys Below the Line, 24: The Editing Process emphasizes the jobs contributing to the distinctive editorial look and style of the Fox series, 24.

The program shows the shooting of a 24 scene in a metro station, focusing on the script supervisor, Anne Melville, and the notes she makes that help the editor. It then follows these notes to the editor’s room, where Scott Powell uses them to build the scene.

Director Jon Cassar sits with Scott and gives his input to the work in progress. Lead actor Kiefer Sutherland tells how a visit to the editing room helped him improve his performance, and other cast members, including Elisha Cuthbert, Carlos Bernard, Reiko Aylesworth, and Penny Johnson Jerald, comment on their perceptions of the importance of editing and script supervision. DVD extras provide even more insight into the making of television.
