THE AWARD
The Interactive Media Primetime Emmy® Award honors an interactive media program, or series commercially deployed domestically in the period of June 1, 2007 – May 31, 2008 that demonstrates outstanding creative achievement in interactive media for a fiction or non-fiction based program or series. One, more than one, or no Primetime Emmy® statuette will be awarded to the individual(s), company or partnership of companies directly involved with and principally responsible for the recognized interactive media program or series.

This Primetime Emmy® Award celebrates the original or daring leap forward, the visionary approach to engaging and entertaining viewers that inspires future efforts of interactive media producers and illuminates the creative possibilities of interactive media for members of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. Acknowledging that audiences increasingly demand interactive, cross-media content and features that provide entertainment, enhanced access to information, and opportunities for participation and community engagement, the Primetime Emmy® Award for Outstanding Creative Achievement in Interactive Media identifies the best interactive media program or series produced during the eligibility year.

INTENT
The Interactive Media Peer Group was created in 2000 to acknowledge the evolving landscape of television. Specifically, the peer group recognizes that audiences are becoming more engaged in the television viewing experience through the interactive media features of programs or series originally created for and delivered via broadcast, cable, satellite, broadband and mobile networks.

The Primetime Emmy® Award winner(s) for Outstanding Creative Achievement in Interactive Media will take the viewer significantly beyond the traditional passive, linear experience of a program or series by providing one or more participatory interactive features that are expressive, useful, informative and pleasing and that clearly demonstrate best practices in interactive media with regard to concept, storytelling, user experience and visual design.

AREAS OF COMPETITION
In 2008 the Interactive Media Peer Group will award excellence for Outstanding Creative Achievement in Interactive Media in the following two areas of competition:

Outstanding Creative Achievement in Interactive Media—Fiction
The Primetime Emmy® Award for 'Outstanding Creative Achievement in Interactive Media—Fiction' recognizes overall creative excellence in the interactive media components of a fiction based program or series.

Interactive media presents opportunities for audience engagement in a program or series that go beyond the passive, linear experience associated with traditional television viewing and may include features such as access to additional information, extensions of content such as plot or characters into interactive cross media environments, or elements that facilitate individual or community participation in the program or series.

Eligible entries in this area of competition include the interactive media components of a Drama Program or Series, Comedy Program or Series, Made-for-Television Movie, Miniseries, or Dramatic Special originally aired or transmitted during the eligibility year and delivered to viewers via Broadcast, Cable, Satellite, IPTV, Broadband, and Mobile networks or some combination thereof.

Outstanding Creative Achievement in Interactive Media—Non-fiction
The Primetime Emmy® Award for 'Outstanding Creative Achievement in Interactive Media—Non-fiction' recognizes overall creative excellence in the interactive media components of a non-fiction based program or series.

Interactive media presents opportunities for audience engagement in a program or series that go beyond the passive, linear experience associated with traditional television viewing and may include features such as access to additional information, interaction with the stars, personalities or content of the program or elements that allow the viewer to interact with and possibly affect the action taking place within the program or series.

Eligible entries in this area of competition include the interactive media components of a Reality Program or Series, Reality Competition Program or Series, Variety Comedy Or Music Program or Series or Non-fiction Program or Series originally aired or transmitted during the eligibility year and delivered to viewers via Broadcast, Cable, Satellite, IPTV, Broadband, and Mobile networks or some combination thereof.

Entries will be evaluated based on (but not limited to):

Overall Creative Excellence
