Rhoda Actor Dave Groh Dies
Veteran character actor worked more than
30 years on television, film and Broadway

Los Angeles, CA – Actor David Groh, known to most as Rhoda Morgenstern's husband Joe Gerard on mid-1970s sitcom Rhoda, died Tuesday of kidney cancer, his family said yesterday. Groh was 68.

When his character, Joe, married Rhoda on the popular Mary Tyler Moore spin-off, the wedding stirred national attention and yielded one of its highest-rated episodes ever. Their divorce, a subject rarely if ever discussed on television at the time, lead to Groh leaving the series.

The native New Yorker, who studied at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art on a Fulbright scholarship, went on to work steadily for three decades. He appeared in numerous series, movies and stage productions, inlcuding a two-year turn on General Hospital as D.L. Brock and in Neil Simon's Broadway production Chapter Two.

Among other television credits are Baywatch, Murder, She Wrote, Melrose Place and more. Groh also appeared in such films as Get Shorty and Two Minute Warning.
