Harold G. Moore was a lieutenant general in the Vietnam War. His heroism was depicted in a book and the 2002 movie We Were Soldiers, starring Mel Gibson.

Moore was best known for saving most of his men at the 1965 Battle of Ia Drang, between the U.S. and the North Vietnamese armies.

He co-authored the book with Joseph Galloway, who he also teamed up with for the book’s sequel, We Are Soldiers Still.

Moore was also one of the subjects for the 2011 documentary Small Town Boy, Real American Hero.
